The ingreso mínimo vital (IMV) is the Spanish Social Security benefit that tops up a household’s income to a guaranteed level. In 2026 that guaranteed income is €733.60 a month for a single adult: the law sets it as the yearly non-contributory pension, €8,803.20, divided by twelve. Each extra member of the household adds 30%, up to €1,613.92 for five people or more, and single-parent families and households with a member with a 65% disability get a further 22% each. What you are paid is the gap between that figure and last year’s income divided by twelve, as long as the gap is at least 10 euros. Families with children also get the child support supplement of €115, €80.50 or €57.50 a month per child depending on age, which reaches households earning up to three times the guaranteed income. A couple with children aged 2 and 7 who earned 6,000 euros in 2025 would receive €894 of IMV and €173 of supplement a month.
The full 2026 scale
The table gives the monthly guaranteed income for the most common households and the net wealth at which entitlement stops. Each figure is €733.60 multiplied by the coefficient in annex I of Law 19/2021, plus 22% of the single-person amount for single-parent families. They match the figures on the Social Security’s IMV page, and our tests check that before every release.
| Household | Monthly | Yearly | Wealth limit |
|---|---|---|---|
| One adult alone | €733.60 | €8,803 | €26,409.60 |
| One adult, one child | €953.68 | €11,444 | €36,973.44 |
| Single parent, one child | €1,115.07 | €13,381 | €36,973.44 |
| Two adults | €953.68 | €11,444 | €36,973.44 |
| Two adults, one child | €1,173.76 | €14,085 | €47,537.28 |
| Single parent, two children | €1,335.15 | €16,022 | €47,537.28 |
| Two adults, two children | €1,393.84 | €16,726 | €58,101.12 |
| Two adults, three or more children | €1,613.92 | €19,367 | €68,664.96 |
| Single parent, four or more children | €1,775.31 | €21,304 | €68,664.96 |
Five people is the ceiling: beyond that the scale stops rising, however large the family. That is why two adults with three children get the same as three adults with two, €1,613.92. The IMV amounts page shows every combination and the household rules page explains who counts as a member.
Why the figures differ from one website to the next
Search for the IMV amount and you will find figures that disagree by a few cents or by much more. There are three reasons. First, many pages still carry 2025 figures or the December proposal: Royal Decree-law 16/2025, which raised non-contributory pensions and the IMV with them, was not ratified by Congress and lapsed, and the government passed Royal Decree-law 3/2026 on 3 February, ratified on 26 February, backdated to 1 January. The non-contributory pension was set at €8,803.20 a year and the guaranteed income at one twelfth of it.
Second, rounding. The law gives no table: it gives a share of the pension and a scale of coefficients. Multiply in a different order, or start from a monthly figure already rounded, and you land on 733.90 or 954.10 euros. Here the sum starts from the yearly figure in the Official Gazette and rounds only at the end, as the official page does.
Third, and the one that matters to you: the published amount is a maximum. What reaches your account is that figure minus the household’s income from the year before, which is why two identical families can be paid very different sums. The calculator above does that subtraction with your figures, adds the child supplement and checks your wealth.

The IMV step by step
Who can apply
You need legal, actual residence in Spain for at least a year, except for children who arrive by birth or family reunion and victims of trafficking or gender violence. Someone living alone must be 23 or over; someone living with family can claim from 18 if they have dependent children. Under-30s living alone must show two years of independent living and twelve months registered with Social Security, and the household must have existed for six months. The eligibility page checks all of this, with the exceptions in the law.
How the amount is worked out
The previous year’s income of every member is added up as the tax office records it, income tax and contributions are taken off, and the total is divided by twelve. That average has to be at least 10 euros below the guaranteed income. The benefit is the difference. If someone in the household already draws a Social Security pension, the IMV cannot exceed the guaranteed income minus that pension, even with no income the year before; the page on the IMV alongside a pension explains it.
Wealth
Besides income, the INSS looks at what you own. Your main home is ignored. Accounts, deposits, other property, funds and pension plans all count. There are two tests: net wealth must stay below three times a single adult’s yearly guaranteed income on the household scale, and assets other than the home must not exceed six times. Being the director of an active trading company rules you out straight away. The limits for your case are on the asset limits page.
Applying and waiting
You apply on the Social Security website, with a digital certificate, Cl@ve or without identifying yourself, or at an INSS office by appointment. Entitlement runs from the following month. The INSS can reject the claim at intake within 30 days if it sees no hardship, and has six months to decide. The how to apply page draws those deadlines on your own date and works out the arrears.
While you are paid
Changes that affect entitlement, such as a new job, a move or someone joining or leaving the household, must be reported within 30 calendar days. The amount is updated twice a year with tax data. If the INSS finds an overpayment it can claim it back, except for a slice when children live in the household; the overpayment page works it out. Spending more than 90 days a year abroad without a medical reason ends the right.
Common questions
How much is the minimum living income in 2026 for a single person?
Up to €733.60 a month, which is €8,803.20 a year in twelve payments. That is the guaranteed income: any income you had last year is subtracted, divided by twelve. With a recognised disability of 65% or more the figure rises by 22%, to €894.99.
Which income counts for the IMV?
The previous year’s income of every household member as the tax office records it: wages, pensions, benefits, savings and rental income, minus income tax and social contributions. Study grants, housing aid, child maintenance that was never actually paid and unemployment assistance that had run out by the application date are left out.
When is the IMV paid?
Entitlement starts on the first day of the month after you apply, even if the decision comes later: the waiting months are paid as arrears. The INSS has six months to decide, and silence means refusal. Once awarded, it is paid monthly by bank transfer to the account of the claimant.
Can I work and receive the IMV at the same time?
Yes. Since 27 March 2026, Royal Decree 240/2026 leaves out of the sum the first €6,000 of a year-on-year pay rise and half of anything above it, or 55% for single-parent families and households with a disability. The INSS applies it at the annual review.
Does owning a flat stop me from getting the IMV?
Not if it is your main home: that never counts as wealth. What counts is everything else, savings, other property, funds and pension plans, minus the debts on them. A single person is excluded from €26,409.60 of net wealth, and the limit rises with household size up to €68,664.96.
Can the child supplement be claimed without the IMV?
Yes, that is the point of it: it reaches families earning up to three times the guaranteed income, well above the IMV threshold. A couple with one child can earn up to €42,255.36 a year and receive €115 a month if the child is under three. It is claimed on the same form.
How much will the minimum living income rise in 2027?
Nobody knows yet. The guaranteed income follows the non-contributory pension, which is set in the State Budget or, without one, in an uprating decree. By 1 November 2026 neither had been published for 2027, so the 2026 figures still apply.
