In 2026 the reference amount of Spain’s minimum living income is €733.60 a month, one twelfth of the yearly non-contributory pension set by Royal Decree-law 3/2026. From there the law applies a scale: the second household member adds 30% and each further member another 30%, up to a top coefficient of 2.2. Two people therefore get €953.68, three €1,173.76, four €1,393.84 and five or more €1,613.92. On top of the scale come two supplements worth 22% of the single-person amount, one for single-parent families and one when a member has a disability of 65% or more; they can be combined. The theoretical maximum, five or more members with both supplements, is €1,936.70. These figures are ceilings: the benefit actually paid is your household’s figure minus last year’s income divided by twelve.

Where each figure comes from

Law 19/2021 does not publish a table in euros: article 13.2 sets a single person’s amount as the yearly non-contributory pension divided by twelve, then gives coefficients. With the pension of €8,803.20 approved by Royal Decree-law 3/2026, the single amount is €733.60. Multiplying by 1.3, 1.6, 1.9 or 2.2 gives the rest of the scale. We check every result against the Social Security IMV page before publishing: if one cent is off, the site’s tests fail.

The 2026 rise was 11.4% over 2025, the same as for non-contributory pensions. It arrived late: the December 2025 decree was not ratified, the February one was, on 26 February, and its rise applies from 1 January 2026.

What you are actually paid

The calculator’s table is the guaranteed income, which works as an income floor for the household. The INSS subtracts what the household earned the previous year, divided by twelve, and pays the gap. A single mother with two children aged 8 and 11 who earned €4,800 in 2025 has a guaranteed income of €1,335.15 and receives €935 of IMV, plus €115 of child supplement. To run that subtraction with your own figures:

The two supplements

The single-parent supplement applies when one adult lives with their children under 18 and has sole custody, and also when the other parent is in the home but has severe invalidity, absolute incapacity or grade III dependency; the single-parent families page goes through it. The disability supplement is added when any member has a recognised degree of 65% or more, and it does not depend on how many members have one: it is paid once per household. Its logic is on the IMV and disability page.

Neither should be confused with the child support supplement, which is not a share of the guaranteed income but a fixed sum per child by age, with its own and much higher income limits. If there are children in your household, also try the child supplement calculator: plenty of families fall outside the IMV and still qualify for it.

Common questions

Why do two adults get the same IMV as one adult with a child?

Because the scale only counts members, not their age: two people are coefficient 1.3 whether they are a couple or a father and daughter, and both give €953.68. The difference comes through two other routes: the single-parent supplement, if the adult lives alone with the children, and the child supplement, which is paid separately.

From how many members does the IMV stop rising?

From five. The coefficient rises by 0.3 per person up to 2.2 and stays there, so a family of six or eight has the same guaranteed income as a family of five, €1,613.92 a month without supplements. What does keep growing with each child is the child support supplement.

Does the minimum living income include extra summer and Christmas payments?

No. The yearly guaranteed income is split into twelve equal monthly payments, with no extra instalments in June or December. That is why a single person gets €733.60, the yearly non-contributory pension divided by twelve, rather than the €628.80 a non-contributory pensioner receives in each of fourteen payments.

Can the disability supplement be added to the single-parent one?

Yes, the two are compatible and each is worth 22% of the single-person amount, €161.39 a month. A single mother with two children, one of them with a 65% disability, would have €1,496.54 of guaranteed income before income is subtracted.
