Spain’s Public Multiple-Effects Income Indicator, the IPREM, is the same in 2026 as in 2023: €20 a day, €600 a month, €7,200 a year over twelve payments and €8,400 a year when a rule refers to fourteen payments. It has not moved because it is set in the State Budget Act and the budget has been rolled over since 2023. Many aids use it as a yardstick: grants, free legal aid, social energy discounts, rent aid and the income limit for some benefits are expressed in multiples of the IPREM. That is why it matters which figure to use: if the call says nothing, in most cases the yearly fourteen-payment IPREM of €8,400 applies, unless the twelve-payment figure is named. The minimum living income, by contrast, does not use the IPREM: its guaranteed income is based on the non-contributory pension, €8,803.20 a year in 2026. An income of 21,000 euros a year is 2.5 times the fourteen-payment IPREM.
The four IPREM values in 2026
The amount in force is the one set by the ninetieth additional provision of Law 31/2022, the 2023 Budget Act, which still applies because the budget has been rolled over. The IPREM was created in 2004 to replace the minimum wage as the reference for public aid, so that the minimum wage could rise without automatically raising every benefit tied to it. That is why the two are far apart today.
| Basis | 1 times | 1.5 times | 2 times | 3 times |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Daily | €20 | €30 | €40 | €60 |
| Monthly | €600 | €900 | €1,200 | €1,800 |
| Yearly, 12 payments | €7,200 | €10,800 | €14,400 | €21,600 |
| Yearly, 14 payments | €8,400 | €12,600 | €16,800 | €25,200 |
How to read a call for applications
When an aid asks for income below, say, three times the IPREM, check three things: which basis it uses, twelve or fourteen payments; whose income it means, the applicant’s or the whole family’s; and whether there is a multiplier per member. Many regional rent aids, for example, weight the IPREM by household size. The calculator does the first step, turning multiples into euros and euros into multiples.

The IPREM and the IMV do not mix
A common mistake is to look up the IPREM to find out whether you qualify for the minimum living income. Law 19/2021 sets its income and wealth limits on the guaranteed income, which is the non-contributory pension divided by twelve, and Social Security publishes them in euros. For the IMV use the amounts table; for aid expressed in IPREM multiples, this page. The gap between the two is wide: a single person has €733.60 of guaranteed income, 1.22 times the monthly IPREM.
A practical example: a regional aid asks for family income below 2.5 times the IPREM. If it says nothing more, the basis is the fourteen-payment yearly figure and the limit is €21,000. If the family earned €19,000, it is at 2.26 times and qualifies. On the twelve-payment basis the limit would drop to €18,000 and the same family would miss out, which is why the small print of each call matters before you apply. The calculator lets you switch basis and see both results side by side.
