Spain’s non-contributory pension is for people who have not contributed enough for a contributory pension: there is a retirement version, from 65, and an invalidity version, from 18 to 65 with a disability of 65% or more. In 2026 the full amount is €8,803.20 a year, €628.80 in each of fourteen payments, after a 11.4% rise approved by Royal Decree-law 3/2026. Two income limits apply. Your own income must be below that figure; up to 35% of it, €3,081.12, does not reduce the pension, and anything above is deducted. And if you live with relatives, the combined income of the whole household may not reach a limit that rises with each member: €14,965.44 for two people, €21,127.68 for three, multiplied by 2.5 if they include your children or parents. The pension never falls below 25%, €2,200.80 a year. Pensioners who rent and hold the lease also get €525 a year, and those needing another person’s help with a 75% degree add 50%.
How the amount is worked out
The General Social Security Act sets the formula in articles 363 and 364. The starting point is the full amount set each year, in 2026 by Royal Decree-law 3/2026. If the pensioner has own income above 35% of that figure, the excess is deducted. Then the household is checked: if everyone’s income plus the pension exceeds the household limit, the pension is cut until it fits. It never falls below 25%. If two non-contributory pensioners share a home, each gets the average of 100% and 70%, €7,482.72 a year.
| People in the household | General limit | With children or parents |
|---|---|---|
| 2 | €14,965.44 | €37,413.60 |
| 3 | €21,127.68 | €52,819.20 |
| 4 | €27,289.92 | €68,224.80 |
| 5 | €33,452.16 | €83,630.40 |
An example: a person with no income of their own living with a spouse who earns €10,000 a year. The two-person limit is €14,965.44; the full pension plus the spouse’s €10,000 exceeds it, so the pension is cut to €4,965.44 a year, €354.67 per payment.

Supplements and administration
Royal Decree 241/2026 sets the rent supplement at €525 a year for a pensioner holding a lease on their main home. The supplement for needing another person, 50% of the pension, is for invalidity pensioners with a 75% degree who have it recognised. The regions administer the pensions; Imserso publishes a yearly summary of the amounts. The retirement and invalidity pages detail each version’s conditions, and the page on the IMV alongside a pension explains how it combines with the minimum living income.
A practical warning: the amount the calculator gives is the yearly figure split into fourteen payments, as the system pays it. To compare it with the IMV, which is paid in twelve, divide the yearly figure by twelve. The same applies when an aid asks for income in monthly terms: use the yearly pension divided by twelve, not the amount of a single payment, or the comparison will overstate what you receive and the household may seem to earn less than it does.
