The child support supplement (complemento de ayuda para la infancia) is a monthly sum for each child under 18, paid inside Spain’s minimum living income but with its own conditions. In 2026 it is €115 a month for each child under 3, €80.50 from 3 to 5 and €57.50 from 6 to 17, with age taken on 1 January. What matters most is the income limit: the family may have earned up to three times the yearly guaranteed income for its size, €42,255.36 for two adults and one child or €50,178.24 with two. That is why many families on ordinary wages who would never get the IMV still receive it. Net wealth, excluding the home, must stay below 150% of the IMV limit, €71,305.92 for three people. A couple with children aged 2 and 4 who earned 28,000 euros net gets no IMV but receives €196 a month in supplement, €2,346 a year.
An income limit three times higher
Article 11.6 of Law 19/2021 sets the supplement apart from the IMV. For the minimum income, last year’s income must be at least €10 below the guaranteed income; for the supplement it is enough to stay under 300% of that figure. A couple with two children loses the IMV from €16,606 of yearly income but keeps the supplement up to €50,178. A large share of working families with children sits between those two numbers.
| Household | Yearly income limit | Net wealth limit |
|---|---|---|
| 2 people | €34,332 | €55,460 |
| 3 people | €42,255 | €71,306 |
| 4 people | €50,178 | €87,152 |
| 5 people | €58,101 | €102,997 |
Wealth has its own test: net wealth, leaving out the main home, must be below 150% of the limit used for the IMV. Non-business assets also must not exceed the general limit, and being the director of an active company rules you out, just as for the IMV.
Amounts by age
The law set three bands of 100, 70 and 50 euros in 2021, and Social Security has uprated them since: in 2026 they are €115, €80.50 and €57.50. They add up per child with no cap: three children aged 1, 4 and 9 make €253 a month. Unlike the guaranteed income, the supplement does not shrink as income rises: either you are under the limit and get all of it, or you get none.
In the example above, the couple with children aged 2 and 4 and €28,000 of income has a threshold of €50,178 and receives €195.50 a month. If their income rises above the threshold the following year, the supplement is suspended at the annual review and returns if income drops again.
